Val di Fassa - skiing in the Dolomites
The Val di Fassa is a spectacular valley in the Italian Dolomites, lying in the Trentino Alto Adige region, starting roughly 25 kilometres to the south west of Bolzen (Bolzano).
The area is rightly famed for its splendid Alpine scenery and excellent skiing (falling under the Dolomiti Superski umbrella), and having spent a few days in the region (the children went skiing), we came away very impressed with both the way everything was arranged and how friendly everyone was, from the bars to the hotels to the people on the slopes themselves. The sight of the glowing pink mountains is one that will stay with you for a long long time.
You may find yourself struggling to understand, particularly if you’re eavesdropping on a conversation, and that’s because many of the locals converse in Ladin (Ladino). This is a distinct language as opposed to a dialect (it’s a Rhaeto-Romance language, to be precise), but don’t worry, you can get by in Italian, German or English. Oh, and the food was great as well, albeit not shy on calories.
Trentino Alto Adige is a fine place to visit all year round, and you’ll find a wide range of hotels in the Dolomites on our main booking site.
Below you’ll find some photographs from the area as well as a couple of links to continue your reading.
