Rome Termini rail station – fun times ahead
Well, Rome’s central rail station – Stazione Termini – needed a bit more confusion. Not quite frenetic enough as it was. Starting March 2010 is one of the largest renovation projects on a key European railway station to ever take place (although Berliners may argue about this one).
Scheduled to finish in four years (it may, it may), the project, once finished, will see parking spaces for well over a thousand cars, which should make the pavements a bit freer in this buzzing area of Rome. However, until that day, much of the local bus and train traffic is being rerouted to Rome’s second station, Tiburtina, four stops away on the underground train.
The parking area will be being constructed directly above the platforms, and the Rome edition of la Reppublica has a slideshow showing an artist’s-impression of how the project will look when completed – it’s pleasing to note that the roof is blanketed in photo-voltaic panels!
